It’s a curious phrase, we must admit, with origins dating back to the early 1800s and horse racing. So what does “Dark Horse” have to do with coffee?
The dark horse in a race is the one you never see coming. And yet, they pull off a performance that makes everyone sit up straight and pay attention. The dark horse is underestimated. Unexpected. Curious. Intriguing. Above all, they wow you with what they can do. This idea of the underestimated contender, the dark horse in the race, is what drives us and excites us. Maybe–just maybe–we have felt like the dark horse in our endeavors one too many times.
It’s about having the courage to believe you’re a contender even when you secretly feel like you don’t measure up or your potential is underrated.
